What does the average Indian think of Arranged marriages and how do you justify spending the rest of your life with someone you really dont know. I have realized that I am Indian but I dont share those values. I wish there was some way to reconcile and bring the two worlds together. I love my parents and will always admire and respect them. However I cannot justify being with someone I dont know. It is a very complicated ordeal and I honestly dont see how it works in this day and age. I desire companionship and want my future wife to have a strong relationship with the Lord. But as far as race goes I could marry someone of Japanese descent. My parents have a proposal in New York and they have contacted the parents of this girl. The proposal came as a result of some family ties in India. I saw a picture of this girl with her mother and now we are planning a trip to New York to visit her family. For someone that was born and raised outside the US it seems rather primitive. However I am open to suggestions and want some input as to what I am supposed to do?

THIS IS IN HONOR OF TIM HINES

It is with the utmost sadness that I am informing you all of the passing of my husband Tim (PFC HINES). After a very long struggle God has decided to take him to a better place. Early this morning I was rushed to the hospital bc I was told Tim needed some new lines put in and my consent was needed. I hurried over and when I got there I was given devastating news. Tim was extremely extremely sick, the sickest he's been since he came to Walter Reed. His heartrate was up to about 152 (normal is 60-100), he was having some kind of problem with his heart, and he had to be put on a powerful blood pressure medicine to keep his blood pressure up. His blood gases were once again way off, he had a fever of 103 and they were trying to figure out if there was some source of infection causing it. Shortly after I arrived they figured out that his body wasn't in septic shock (which would be caused by an infection) but I believe they called it a hemoglobin shock meaning he had lost a lot of blood somewhere and it was causing major problems. He was rushed into the OR where they found about a liter and a half of blood in his abdomen. They thought they'd found the >source of it, but the blood was old (it was clotting) and it wasn't still >bleeding out so they couldn't be 100% sure it was the source of the bloodloss so they left his abdomen open and planned to go to the OR again on Sat. or Sun. to make sure. When he came back from the OR he was doing so well for his condition. His heartrate was down to about 105 (which is really good for him), his blood gas levels were the best they'd been all day (I was told they were in the normal range), his blood pressure medicine was slowly being weaned off, and the oxygen level on his ventilator, which >had been up to 100%,was down to 70% which is also very good. The echo EKG that they did yesterday on his heart came back fine so they thought his heart was doing okay. Overall the doctors were very happy (excited even) >with the progress he'd made since this morning. Unfortunately it didn't last. They had to change out some lines (including the ones they use for dialysis) to make sure he didn't have any kind of blood infection from the lines. Shortly after that they were getting ready to do a chest xray and thats when everything went downhill. As they lifted him up to do the xray blood started pouring out of his trachea. I was told he went into cardiac arrest. They rushed him to the OR and worked on him for over an hour, but they couldn't find the source of the bleeding so they couldn't stop it and so he bled out and they were never able to get another heartbeat. I know that everyone must be in shock, I can tell you that I still cannot believe >that this has happened and I don't want to believe it. I just wanted everyone to know from me what happened and that he has passed on. He's the love of my life and he was an amazing husband and father and I know he tried so hard and fought like crazy to stay here with us. It just wasn't a battle he could win. I don't know what else to say and I have no idea what >to do. I just needed to let everyone know what was going on. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. They meant the world to Tim and I. Hey guys,We are all here now in DC. On Friday the Orthopedic doctor was very pleased with Tim's progress. His wounds are starting to heal. His kidneys are also very slowly improving. However, since we have been here Tim has taken some major steps back. His doctors were trying to start weaning him off his respirator on Sunday. Since then he has gotten worse. They discovered when they fixed his trach tube(he was bleeding, nothing to major) that the pneumonia has spread to both lungs. He has what they call ARDS. So they now are heavily sedating him so that they can put him more on the respirator to let his lungs rest(this is what we gather). His heart has been doing funny things also. When they were fixing his trach tube, his heart stopped for 3 seconds. Also during periods of the day his heartbeats have dropped. We will find out the results of the test today.I saw Tim for the first time yesterday. There's nothing like seeing someone who can't breathe on their own. It's so scary. He is in such a fragile state. He's still fighting. He is really scared when the doctors and nurses come in b/c he doesn't know what they are going to do with him. Katy is by his side as much as she can be. He requests for her all of the time. She is very calming to him and explains what is going on.Lily is also frustrated. She can't see her mom all of the time and she gets upset. It's heartbreaking when we have to tell her we have to leave. Please pray for Tim. These next few days are critical. Just pray that the junk in his lungs breaks up and goes away and that his kidneys heal as well. Also pray that God just fills him with a peace while he is awake and asleep.People have been asking for info and how to help so here it their address which you can send cards n stuff:Mologne House HotelAttn: Tim and Katy Hines (Rm. 465)One Main DriveWashington, DC 20307-5001Also if you go to any 5/3, they have a Timothy Hines fund if you would like to donate.Sorry this is short but i only have a couple minutes. Thanks everyone.Sara

This is a response from my friend Ken Harvey

My criticism of you will always be in love because as we all know we can put a lot into what others say about us especially those that influence us and help us in our walks with God, you are my brother. I agree on the fundamental idea that change coming through reading someone’s book is a fallacy and a prostituting of the word of God is a normal day practice…I will say if there are people not interested in the word of God, but in the wisdom of man of God’s word, that will effect how one interprets it. In simple, there are those that study God’s meat and others that need to be baby fed, that rely on others to gurgitate it then bring it back up to be feed on. Now then let’s focus on how we can help everyone eat meat and not just desire the milk. Taking the word’s truth and making a buck off it, seems to be doing something wrong, if the money is being used to fund God’s Kingdom, back off the accusations that their hearts are for self…we cannot judge from the outside what God sees on the inside…I love you and I will have more to comment on as you make it available…

I respect for Rick Warren. However his book the "The Purpose Driven Life" makes a claim that doesn't sit well with me. He says thats if you read this book ( The Purpose Driven Life) in the next 40 days, it will transform your life. I fundamentally disagree with that kind of christian arrogance. The only book that will change your life is the Bible. Brother Rick I hope some of the money you have made goes to support some Africans who are in dire need of some food. Everybody wants to jump on the bandwagon of christian authors who make some claims that I have a hard time coming to terms with. That includes Bruce Wilkinson, Rick Warren, and John Eldredge. Take your proceeds and send it to India, Africa and other third world countries and then we can talk about your purpose.

The terrorist attacks in London just make me sick to my stomach. I am so sick of the hatred that emanates in the name of God. What kind of God would destroy human life? God is the preserver of life and no God I serve would allow me to kill innocent people. Again I stand at the crossroads of not understanding why not all muslims are terrorists but why all terrorists are muslims. I would like an explanation from muslims around the world. Thanks for your time.

I just picked up a copy of the Fairfield Post and read the article on Tim Hines, the Fairfield soldier who was wounded in Iraq. I have never met Tim but I know his sister-in law. She is in our small group that meets on Thursdays. Tim lost his right leg as a result of the explosion and now is at the Walter Reed hospital in Washington D.C. His wife Katie is also pregnant with their second child. Please keep the family in your prayers and if anyone feels led to contribute to the family please do so by sending contributions to Tim Hines, Room 465, Mologne House Hotel, 1 Main Drive, 20307- Washington DC.

In Christ
